Currant Jam - is one of my favorite things.
All my life I have been gathering currant in summer. Summer will not be summer without current gathering.
As everybody knows, current can be of 3 types - black, red, white. White is a rare thing, but we have one bush. We don't make a currant jam of it, though.
Currant jam is always made of black or white currant with an amazing amount of sugar. And it is done in family, in the evening after the News on TV. Grandma, grandpa and me. It cannot be the other way. So it is not the real Currant Jam anymore. It will never be the same again.
So, to make a Currant Jam you will need:
- Currant (washed, without leaves) 1/2;
- Sugar 1/2;
- Time to wait (a night, for example) - sugar should dissolve in mashed currant;
- Grandma, grandpa and me.
Wash Currant, mash it, mix with sugar, wait, boil, let it cool, then put in crazy-clear jars and write year and black or red jam on the court plaster on the jar lid. Later, put jars in cardboard boxes with lots of newspapers all over the place. Go home with boxes.
