Chinese Proverbs
This is a list of Chinese proverbs:
- “Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand.” - I think it is about learning as well as about personal life.
- “Make happy those who are near, and those who are far will come”
- “One generation plants the trees, and another gets the shade” - looks like one by Saint-Exupery
- “There are many paths to the top of the mountain, but the view is always the same”
- “He who depends on himself will attain the greatest happiness.” - that's lonely…
- “A man should choose a friend who is better than himself. There are plenty of acquaintances in the world; but very few real friends.” - I guess very banal one
- “The palest ink is better than the sharpest memory”
- “If you are planning for a year, sow rice; if you are planning for a decade, plant trees; if you are planning for a lifetime, educate people” - or better "get an education"?
- “Just as tall trees are known by their shadows, so are good men known by their enemies”
- “He who seeks vengeance must dig two graves: one for his enemy and one for himself” - I believe, that's true
- “Pleasure for one hour, a bottle of wine. Pleasure for one year a marriage; but pleasure for a lifetime, a garden.” - Funny
- “Do not anxiously hope for that which is not yet come; do not vainly regret what is already past”
- “Failure is not falling down but refusing to get up.” - Famous one
- “Don't consider your reputation and you may do anything you like”
- “When we have nothing to worry about we are not doing much, and not doing much supplies us with plenty of future worries”
